What it is used for
Vetafarm lists Doxyvet as a broad-spectrum oral antibiotic for common bacterial infections caused by doxycycline-susceptible organisms. Labelled examples include skin, respiratory tract, urinary tract, oral and ear infections, plus abscesses and wound infections.
Susceptible bacteria may include Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp., E. coli, Haemophilus spp., Clostridium spp., Listeria spp., Bacteroides spp., Bordetella spp., and Klebsiella spp. Not effective against viruses, fungi, or parasites.
How to use | Birds (Vetafarm directions)
- Shake well before use
- 1 mL (20 drops) per 100 mL of drinking water (¼ tsp per 3½ fl oz)
- Offer treated water as the drinking source during treatment
- Change water daily; keep drinkers out of direct sunlight
Course lengths on the Vetafarm label: Chlamydophila (psittacosis) — treat for 42 days; other susceptible bacteria — treat for 7–10 days. Confirm on your pack and with your vet.
